CURE Foundation – National Denim Day
Wear a Pair, Save a Pair! The VanDusen team proudly supports this mantra in the fight against breast cancer. Every year, we support the CURE Foundation – National Denim Day. This year, we raised and donated over $600 to the CURE Foundation.
Once again, we held a staff barbeque on National Denim Day. We encourage all our employees to wear jeans in exchange for a $5 donation to the CURE Foundation. Everyone, who made a donation, also received a CURE pink flower ribbon and a barbeque lunch. Thanks to our General Manager, Jim Gibbens, and Fixed Operations Manager, Nath Mercer, for their barbeque skills. Thanks to all those who helped in moving and setting up all the equipment and food. We also held a 50/50 draw to raise more for the foundation. A special thanks to Cam Banner, the 50/50 winner, who graciously donated his winnings. It was great to have a casual day at the office and a barbeque lunch, at the same time. Thanks to everyone who took part and wore jeans and supported this great cause. It was great to see us all in Denim!
The CURE Foundation raises and provides funding for cancer research. Their mission is “to work in tandem with women and men, health professionals, other foundations and Canadian teaching hospitals to improve the outcome for those affected.” They aim to raise breast cancer awareness among Canadians and to explore all options available in the fight against breast cancer.
In 2013, there were an estimated 23,800 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in women, 200 new cases in men, and 5,000 persons died of this disease, according to the Canadian Cancer Society. The CURE Foundation ensures that no lives are lost due to a lack of funding. Since 1997, National Denim Day has been their main fundraising event. The CURE has raised over 26 million dollars for breast cancer research, education and equipment. By the simple act of wearing their jeans to work, hundreds of thousands of Canadians have helped CURE find a way to eliminate this devastating disease.
Thanks again everyone for your giving spirit!
WEARING JEANS HAS NEVER BEEN SO IMPORTANT!
