Celebrating Girls Inc. Week with Spirit of Girls Breakfast – Strong, Smart, Bold
Girls are the future mothers of our society, and it is important that we focus on their well-being. – Miriam Makeba
Boyer Chevrolet Buick GMC is proud to support Girls Inc. of Durham in their mission of “Inspiring girls to be strong, smart, and bold.”
Every year in May, Girls Inc. affiliates throughout Canada and the United States celebrate the importance of mentors and role models and the significant impact they can make in the lives of girls. As part of Girls Inc. Week, The Spirit of Girls Breakfast is held as a fundraising event to support the numerous programs that are provided. The organization offers in-school classes and seminars, after-school programs, weekend workshops, PA Day, March break and summer camps. Girls Inc. of Durham offers these programs in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, and Oshawa. The sheer abundance and quality of programs is the reason that Girls Inc. of Durham has been recognized as one of the top three charities in Canada in education, and honoured with several awards throughout their history.
This year, Jim VanDusen, owner of Boyer Chevrolet Buick GMC, Rob Ford, Treasurer of Girls Inc. and Chief Administrative Officer of the Town of Ajax, and Mayor Don Mitchell of the Town of Whitby amongst many others from our great community were in attendance at The Spirit of Girls Breakfast held on May 5, 2016. It was a morning filled with extremely inspirational stories from the many incredible girls that participated and shared their experiences. Each unique life story truly demonstrates why girls matter!
The quality and value of the contribution made by Girls Inc. is the reason that Oprah Winfrey and Starbucks are partners in promoting opportunities for girls to recognize their individual strengths and talents and achieve a brighter future.
