Even the Corvette wore a costume to Comic-Con!

Forget about all the star-studded Q&A panels that were in San Diego recently. To kick off the launch of their Star Wars themed cars Mattel released a full-sized version of the ‘Darth Car’. Sorry Peter Jackson, your teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was not as exciting as this!

Under the costume of fibreglass and carbon fibre there is a slightly lowered, and 50% lighter, C5 Chevrolet Corvette with a C6 LS3 V8 engine that is said to have 526hp. I read that it has a 6-speed manual gearbox. I wonder if the Sith Lord uses The Force or the clutch to shift gears? PCW Brands, who built the car in 7 weeks, says that the car has been road-tested up to 80/mph and can reach a speed of 150/mph with its hyperdrive! Even with all this Lord Vader wanted more. The car even comes with a drift brake to help escape the Rebel forces. U.S. Mags created custom wheels and the redline tires deliver style and performance.

To ensure everyone knows who is behind the wheel there is a replica of Vader’s chest plate on the hood and the side pipes resemble a red lightsaber. Yes, they do light up! The hatch opens up just like Vader’s helmet and swirl of smoke will add a little touch of dramatic flair while it opens. Of course there are several iPad controlled audio effects which include the sounds of Darth Vader breathing and the lightsaber coming to life.

The pictures are great, but check out the video!

The Hot Wheels Star Wars cars will be hitting the stores sometime in October. However, if the big kid in you wants something a little more grown-up the Corvette C7 comes in black! See the sales team at Boyer Chevrolet Buick GMC for more details.
